My Students

"Excellence is sum total of three E's - Education, Experience, and Exposure." Our school services both General and Special Education students kindergarten through sixth. The goal is to successfully have a combination of educational experiences that expose our students to all aspects of life so that they may become attributing members of society.

Help my students seek out learning experiences that relate to them on personal levels to foster critical life skills.

More than three-quarters of our students are from low-income households. These supplies will help us become better learners and successful students by giving them the opportunities that they would otherwise not have. The families of my students are in poverty and do not have the resources to provide the best experiences for their children. While they are in my room, I don't want something simple as supplies and money to hold them back from achieving the greatest version of themselves possible.

My Project

These materials are going to help students have something productive and useful to do during downtime in the classroom. Instead of loading on more work, I aim to increase their critical thinking skills through enjoyable brain engagement. The supplies are going to supplement a few things that we already have in class that affect the students on a daily basis. The students in my classroom all have different personalities, needs, and wants, which makes it difficult to engage each individual.

These few, but meaningful things, are going to impact the students on more personal levels through their unique ability to engage and promote learning.

More specifically, the board games are going to allow for critical thinking and strategizing, all the while promoting positive camaraderie between peers. The puzzles will challenge the students mentally, while also providing physical stimulus to further engage and promote learning through problem solving based activities. The origami and builder sets are going to help students get in touch with their creative side by promoting works of art that can be abstract and personal to them. All of the materials are going to help increase student outcomes by focusing in on meaningful engagement instead of mindless game playing.
