My Students

When my third graders come to me every September, they are entering a new situation: a new grade level, new teachers, a new classroom, and sometimes new classmates. When my incoming third graders come to me in September, they will have all of those same new challenges, but they will also be coming back to school after six months. I can't imagine the nerves they will be feeling when they enter my room for the first time. I look forward to making them feel at home with me. My current students are learning from home right now, and are doing their assignments on Google Classroom or paper packets. I meet with them regularly via video conference to check in with them and to read aloud to them.

Both my current and future students deserve materials that will make learning easier for them while making their way through a tough situation.

Many of these students are learning English as a second language and have other added challenges to their learning. Thank you for your consideration in helping these children in their academic journey.

My Project

After spending so much time on devices to learn, my students will benefit so much from good books. They will be so excited to look at the pictures while I read out loud to them and, when it is safe, to hold the books in their hands and enjoy them with a friend.

My students need to continue the bond they have with me and their classmates via video conference while they are home for the remainder of this school year. Next school year, after being out of school for six months, they will need to create and quickly strengthen relationships with their classmates and with me. The trust we will form through reading good literature will be crucial in creating a love of learning to help them get back on track in their educational journeys.
