Nature Walks

My students need 30 watercolor paint sets and 30 clipboards.

I am lucky to have a motivated class of 30 6th graders with an insatiable thirst for the arts.

Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, we do not have an arts curriculum in our school. Therefore, I try to squeeze in as many art related topics as I can.

While the weather is still warm (and even when it starts to get a bit frosty), my class and I will be exploring the great outdoors, sketching & painting scenes from nature to help us with our writing projects. Through this activity, I will be able to reach out to those students that have difficulty using descriptive language (especially my ESL learners), and I hope to create an atmosphere where students will be able to use all their senses during writing workshop.

Writing doesn't just involved words on paper - it is a way for each student to express themselves individually, to see the world in a new light. Having these supplies will give the students power to create art pieces, which in turn will inspire their writing.
