This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are enthusiastic scientists, and that enthusiasm can often cause literal spill-overs onto their desks and floors. Keeping workspaces and floors clean is a vital student job in my classroom. While this often involves a broom and a dustpan, there are frequently messes that require a bit more horsepower - soil spilled onto the floor, dust hiding in a corner, in the computer cart and bookshelves, or under the radiators where dust seems to accumulate most before it’s blown around by the heat.

A powerful but maneuverable vacuum will let us pick up big messes quickly, and get into the nooks where dirt and dust tend to persist.

A clean classroom impacts so many facets of students’ learning experience. A clean workspace makes it easier to be creative and focused. Keeping down dust keeps students healthier, cutting down on the number of days they are absent or not feeling well.

The charge to keep their space clean teaches lifelong responsibility that makes students better stewards of their environment. Providing them this tool to keep things clean sends the message that I want to support them in this responsibility. Please send us a vacuum to keep our class clean!
