Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In collaboration with Indigenous Education, we are creating project-based units that highlight notable Native leaders and ask students to consider how they are leaders in their communities. In class, we will be talking about past and present Native leaders, and using portions of the text to guide learning. As urban Native youth with limited access to cultural representation in school materials, these take home books allow students to have beautiful, inspirational examples of Native peoples like themselves.
The goal is for Native students to find the leader within themselves and take action to make a difference in their communities.
