My Students

Do you remember the first time you flew a kite? Now imagine flying your own hot air balloon. While the hot air balloons we're requesting won't take them for a physical it will take their imaginations for a ride. Please help my student's imaginations soar.

My students are 100% Native Americans.

They live on an Indian Reservation where poverty and unemployment are extremely high. Many of my students live in non-traditional homes. Money is in short supply and therefore my students don't have a lot of the "extras" in life. My students beg for science and most of it is taught from a book. Hands on experiments (investigations) are events that they talk about for weeks if not longer.

My Project

This year I am going to bring science into math and reading even more. By having science items that I can integrate into writing and reading I am hoping that my students will write their experiences in a science notebook and this will not only enhance their science experience but improve their vocabularies and their reading fluency. Students love science so much that they don't realize that they are often doing more than science when they have hands on experiences. By providing my students with the requested items you will not only open up science to them but the need for writing and reading.

Science, and "hands-on" investigations can improve my students science literacy but also their reading fluency and their writing ability.

The balloons that we've requested will give the students an opportunity to learn important science information while involving parents in the activity. By keeping a science notebook my students will improve in all academic areas.
