My Students

Our school is 57 years old and is located in the largest city in Oregon. Like many schools in our district, our school population is very diverse, with over 25 different languages spoken and a high level of poverty. My class will consists of students with mixed abilities, languages and cultural backgrounds. My students are always energetic, smart, and thoughtful fourth graders who are eager to learn. For many of my students, school provides safety, stability, food and support that they don’t have at home.

I'd like to enhance my students educational experience by providing them with a subscription to Explorer Magazine-National Geographic.

My Project

My students could benefit from a classroom subscription to National Geographic Explorer magazine to enhance their exposure to nonfiction, science and current events. National Geographic creates a wonderful full color magazine for students that supports reading and science standards and comes with a teacher's guide, graphic organizers and a writing assessment.

I'll be able to utilize the magazines throughout the year during small and whole reading groups and/or provide them an independent reading option.

With a classroom set of magazines, students will each be able to have their own copy and get to take it home upon completion of our classroom study.
