My students live and learn in a high poverty and dangerous district. Students often do not have access to basic necessities at home, and are continuously challenged by the environment they live in. I am looking to provide my students with the resources they need, while creating a safe and fun learning environment.
My students are creative, curious, and very eager to learn.
They love positive attention, and love to incorporate technology into their learning environment. Most of my students receive free lunch through our free lunch program, and are from a single-parent household. Many of my students cannot afford school supplies, and use what is provided by the school. While some may view their circumstances as "lost causes," I foster a joy for learning that instills a hunger to grow in my students. By allowing my students a safe space to explore their own learning, I hope to nurture their academic potential in a creative and positive way.
My Project
My students are visual learners, and really enjoy reading graphic novels. In order to complete our narrative unit, exploring themes of good vs. evil and right vs. wrong, I would like my students to study The Golden Compass. Specifically, I would like my students to explore The Golden Compass in graphic novel form. This will not only give students an opportunity to read the novel, but will give them a chance to further analyze the novel through the author's use of graphics. This will deepen their understanding of the themes we will be focusing on during their Narrative Unit. Thank you for being a part of this project!
