Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Second grade students need to know the seven wonders of Chicago. We live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Most of my students have never seen the lake front, Sears Tower or The Water Tower to name a few. I teach at Otis school on the West side of the city. My students never get to come downtown. The only place they go is to school and the nearby neighborhood church. I want my students to study about the seven wonders and do research on each wonder. They will write stories and draw pictures. We will share the stories and pictures with our first grade buddies. In the Spring of 2006, I want to take the students on a bus trip around the city to show the seven wonders that we have been writing and studying about. Students will benefit from this trip. They will learn how to do research on the computer and nearby library. Their reading and writing will improve as they use their imagination to predict what the seven wonders really look like in real life. To make this trip possible, I need 10 sets of blank book forms and a bus fee, as well as funding for lunch at McDonald\'s for 20 students.
