Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our campus serves students in grades PK to 5th and is 97% free/reduced lunch, with many being single-parent households. Although our population of students faces difficult day-to-day hurdles in their lives, they still walk in the front door each day with smiles on their faces willing to greet everyone on their way to breakfast in the cafeteria.
Our students are eager to learn and are always striving to move forward with their academic success.
It is a privilege to work with these students each day.
My Project
Name That Book is a scholastic competition between students from all elementary schools in the Houston Independent School District. The students are required to read and memorize 30 books for the Name That Book competition. The students are asked quotes from different books and must identify what book it comes from by naming the title of the book. This will encourage them to distinguish literature by author's style of writing, genres, and author's purpose. Name that Book encourages a love of reading and exposes students to books outside of their interests. It encourages them to have a greater understanding of the books they are reading.
