I am blessed to teach math at a wonderful Title I school in Northeast North Carolina. Our students are active and hard working. Although my school is designated as having a high percentage of children from low-income families, our students are easily motivated, loving and care about their success!
Our students get excited, work harder and stay more engaged when an incentive or special celebration is presented to them as an outcome for their success!
Our students come from various backgrounds and cultures. They are each unique and have a way about winning my heart with their kindness and thoughtfulness. They have truly become my family!
My Project
The measuring wheel will allow for us to easily mark off the 5 K outdoor running track for our N25K running team. The tent, cooling towels, and outdoor timer will allow our students to learn how to safely run long distances in the heat. The cooler will allow for students to stay hydrated by filling their water bottles without having to go inside the school building and parental involvement will naturally increase due to student excitement!
Incorporating a running team at our school will allow our students to gain team-building skills, confidence, exercise and health benefits.
Co-ed teams will be selected and formed each nine weeks based on academic success and will run one 5K each nine weeks for a total of four for the school year.
Students that have met their individual nine weeks academic goal(s) will be placed on a team for the nine weeks. Parents will be invited to attend each 5K which will take place alternating during the school day and after school.
This project will allow students an opportunity to be a part of a team and to learn a safe way to build up their running stamina by using the C25K running app. This project will also increase motivation and confidence for academic success in both males and females as well as exercise, health, and parental involvement.
