Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from Montclair are part of the AVID program. AVID's goal is to get students college and career ready. We teach and reinforce academic behaviors and higher levels of thinking.
My second graders are kind, thoughtful, and eager to learn.
They enjoy opportunities to learn through hands on experiments as well as getting to use new technologies. They love to discover and learn things through their own personal investigations and research. They can get so excited about a topic, and will continue to do they're own research and make amazing connections. They are team players who will cheer each other on. They love opportunities to collaborate and problem-solve together.
Second graders are a great group of students!
My Project
My class is lucky enough to get to use Mystery Science, a website dedicated to helping keep kids curious. The website guides students through some amazing inquiries. It gets students thinking and asking their own questions about the world and how it works. For my students to fully engage with the website and make the most of these inquiry lessons, they need these supplies to complete the hands-on portion of these investigations.
These supplies will help the students investigate different situations through hands-on experiments.
With these supplies students will investigate the power of water and erosion, animal biodiversity, plant adaptations, and the phases and properties of matter. One experiment students can complete with these supplies is they will build hills out of cornmeal and will use some of these supplies to problem solve the best ways to protect their hills from water erosion.
