This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Language Arts teacher at a middle school in New York City. The population of my school and class is very diverse. Over 95% of my school's population receives free lunch, which is a strong indicator that the overwhelming majority of students come from lower-level income households. This, however, doesn't slow us down. Not one bit.

I have an incredible group of resilient students who love to read but are struggling to find something that interests them.

As an ELA teacher, I’m constantly trying to find books that are appropriate and on the proper level for my students, but as many kids have missed so much time in the classroom, this task is now harder than ever. My classroom library needs a variety of high-interest books that my students want to dive into, so I'm starting with two of the greatest young adult mystery authors of all time.

My Project

These books will help reignite the love of reading in students who have had some unsettling recent school years. It's more challenging than ever to get students back on track, but with titles like these, they'll be motivated to push themselves even harder than they already are.

Many of my students listed mystery and thriller as their favorite book genres - the exact items that my library is lacking!

Now more than ever kids need to be able to dive into some great books to temporarily escape from everything else going on around them. These books, from two of the greatest young adult authors of all time, are exactly what they need. When it comes to Cooney and Duncan, reading satisfaction is guaranteed!
