Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from every country you can imagine. We are located in one of the most diverse school districts in the United States and our student population reflects that beautifully. With so many backgrounds coming together, English is very often a second (or third) language for many of our students.
Reading plays an integral part in teaching the nuance of a language, so the more access to books that I can provide for my students will translate into a deeper learning experience.
My Project
State testing requirements exist, and part of my job is to help prepare my students to pass their end of year exams. The test for my class is one that my students MUST pass before they can graduate from high school. One of the skills that my students struggle with the most is inferencing. Getting them to think of their texts as "mysteries" makes learning this skill fun and memorable.
These mystery solving boxes will help them have fun while working toward a deeper understanding of the concepts they need in order to be successful!
