This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of biology and AP biology students who get excited by seeing how science connects to their lives. They are invigorated by hands-on science and real-world applications.

Our school is unique in that it serves students from many different backgrounds, but they get along and support one another, championing their peers successes.

My AP biology classes are made up of motivated students who have taken the initiative to take four years of science. I teach both freshmen and seniors.

My Project

Both our AP biology text and regular biology text are woefully out of date and a bear to read. We are transitioning to the Next Generation Science Standards, but do not have appropriate resources.

I read Carroll's book, Serengeti Rules, as part of a teacher book club and know that it will have a significant impact on how my students think about ecology and physiology.

I look forward to providing my students with a book that gets them excited about science reading. So often science writing is dry, but Serengeti Rules is full of anecdotes that will show my students that the rules of regulation they learn about that govern the function of the body can be applied to ecology as well.
