My Voracious Readers Are Always Hungry

My students need advanced reading material, including 7 copies each of "High King," "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "Redwall," "My Side of the Mountain" and many more, that challenges their abilities while maintaining age appropriate subject matter.

My Students

Some books are never forgotten! My challenge is providing high quality literature that is age appropriate. Award winning and classic literature will provide the memorable reading material and engaging writing topics my students need.

Each of my 28 gifted students read well above grade level.

Some devour a book every 2 days. Often, they will keep books under their desks, and read between each activity. Our class and reading group discussions are lively with students bringing great thought and interesting perspectives to the stories. The books they read have a lasting impact on the writing they produce.

My Project

Our class literature studies focus on different genres, but this pool of books is in need of some updating and broadening. I would like to expose these gifted learners to award winning and classic literature that can stay with them for the rest of their lives. These books will be used in our literature circles which meet each week for discussion and analysis of the chosen book. These small groups lend themselves to in depth exploration of the themes, writing tools and messages contained in high quality literature. We then use the ideas for writing development.

Excellent reading material will be the foundation for excellent literature study.

These students are capable of amazing things, and award winning and classic books will make this possible.
