My Students

I teach 18-20 Kindergartners in an inclusive SPED classroom. Kindergarten is a very exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count. Others are reading chapter books and doing first grade math while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a pencil. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and dance.

We are striving to build an inclusive, tolerant classroom around what we have in common and our shared experiences.

We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach in a wing of five kindergartens. The work we do in this classroom is building and fostering positive relationships, staying on task, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.

My Project

Every student, regardless of academic ability, wants to feel like they can accomplish a goal. These activities will go a long way to boost their self confidence and help them grow in letter/number fluency.

I plan to use them in my play dough centers which develop their fine motor skills and that helps tremendously with handwriting and letter/number formation all under the guise of "playing" with playdough.

These items will really go a long way and target multiple learning styles. The students will feel like they can accomplish something without teacher intervention.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
