My students love to come to the guided reading table! They rush over to the table to experience this special time to learn and grow. It is a wonderful experience to read to your teacher. However, there are no books. There are no books on their level and not enough books for a small group.
My kindergarten students are eager to learn how to read.
They enjoy picking up a book and reading in their cozy book nook areas. They love using their "tool box" of strategies to figure out tricky words. Their whole body smiles as they read.
My district and school lack the resources to provide guided reading materials for my students. I teach in Title One school and we don't have the materials that my students deserve. We are lacking leveled text for guided reading. My students want to come to the guided reading table and be able to read a variety of books on their level. They want to be able to use their reading powers to figure out tricky words.
My Project
When I call my students' group they rush to the guided reading table. They are so ready! They are ready to read! They are ready to learn! They are ready to learn a new super power!
They are super readers and they deserve super resources at their fingertips. My students will use these resources in their guided reading time with me. I will plan lessons that are tailored to their needs as a reader. They will read the text to me and I can support them as readers.
These resources will bring rich text into the hands of my classroom of readers.
These texts will provide many learning experiences for my young readers. These books will allow for me to develop lessons for their specific reading needs.
The smile I see when my students have a new book is wonderful feeling. They will enjoy these texts that are on their instructional reading level. Most importantly, these books will allow them to grow as super readers!
