This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Physical Education is no longer the days of throwing out the ball. Students in gym class are expected to learn while having a great time and workout.
My students live in the city and are used to being indoors and not having many opportunities to get exercise.
They are well behaved children from low-income families. Most of my students do not have the funds to be involved in outside physical activities. This means that their only opportunity for exercise is during my Physical Education class. I want to provide my students the chance to participate in physical activity while making it the best learning experience possible.
My Project
The SPARK PE Curriculum showed that academic achievement among children increased, provides moderate to vigorous physical activity in students to over 50% of class time, fitness improvement and achievement (as measured by the Fitness-gram test), sport skills development (throw, catch, kick, enjoyment of PE by student and Improved teacher instruction.
SPARK PE was designed to be more inclusive, active, and fun than traditional PE classes, and SPARK has been demonstrated to work with both physical education specialists and classroom teachers.
Today, after lessons learned from more than 20 years of ongoing research and field testing nationwide, SPARK PE is one of the best physical education programs in the world and a true solution to our growing problem of overweight and obese children.
