My Students

Many of my students have never read a book from cover to cover; let alone owned one. Currently, our school is without a library and scholars must ride the city bus in the evening to get books. High school is coming for a close, but it is never too late to love reading!

My students are eager, responsible and sweet.

They are thankful to attend a rigorous, clean and safe charter school. They are in dire need of a library and a place where they can unwind and escape. Currently, my students have a very negative relationship with reading because they have never had the opportunity to choose their own books. Many of my students have never even been to a public library since they ride public transportation to and from school.

My Project

I have selected about 50 books that I think will engage my scholars. I have chosen books on a variety of topics including but not limited to: science, technology, history, poetry, short stories, fiction and the like. Once we get these books, I will build time into each class period for scholars to stretch out in the room and enjoy a book of their choice. I know that by encouraging students to read now, that they will be more likely to continue this habit and become lifelong learners. Many of my students have not had access to these resources and desperately need to form a love for reading.
