My 22 students need their own 3 ring binders to use as journals and to hold their individual music.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many teachers begin their classes by saying, "Please take out a piece of paper and write 3 sentences about..." I can not do this because my classroom does not have desks! The 3 ring binders I had in the past are old and broken. I want to be able to give each of my students a surface to write on.
I have the great honor of being a middle school music teacher.
I work with a bunch of incredible kids who face serious adversity on a daily basis. The middle school that I work in is in California and is three blocks away from the largest housing project in our city. The majority of students are minority students from low income households. Many of our students are underachieving. Our students did not ask to be born into poverty. They did not ask to struggle. They just want to be kids who can have fun and learn without worrying about things that middle school students should not worry about. Our school is a safe haven for many of our students.
My Project
I am asking for 132 three ring binders. As a music teacher, I work in a room that does not have desks. I also do not have a text book for my class. The three ring binders act as a desk, a journal and assignment notebook and it is also the place where my students keep their music. During practices, the three ring binders are placed on music stands where the students can read their sheet music. The three ring binders will help maintain high expectations and increase the 'hands-on' experience which we have found to increase student engagement. Their journals will be loaded with their songwriting ideas, emotional journal assignments and their music curriculum. The students will be able to put their own personality into their three ring binder. They will be organized by their assigned classes and they will be able to have their entire music class at their fingertips.
Think of this donation as buying my music students desks!
They will have something to lean on, a book to write their beautiful ideas in, and a place to go back and reference a chord, a note, a lyric or go back to a song that they started writing. Having their own sturdy three ring binder for my class specifically will enhance their experience in my music class. It will also teach them about personal responsibility. This will be something that belongs to them and only them.
