Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a bilingual speech teacher who works with speech and language and hearing impaired students in kindergarten through 5th grades. Many of my students also are English language learners meaning English is not their native language. All of many students work hard at improving their speech and language skills as well as improving and understanding the academic curriculum. They want to be better communicators and work diligently at improving their communication skills. My students are so dedicated to improving their communication skills.
My Project
My students enjoy reading high-interest articles that take them to different parts of the world, to learn about different animals, technology, science, social studies, cultures, people, places, traditions, and cultures. By reading high-interest articles the students learn new vocabulary words, are able to answer questions, and are able to tell facts they learned. My students get so excited every time we pick up a new magazine. Through distance learning, we have been able to read the interactive online subscriptions and do the many extended lessons that help improve their writing, grammar and syntax, phonology, and pragmatic language skills.
