Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are teens on a path to success. We service a district whose adolescents require a lot of homegrown love. We are proud to provide the educational, social and psychological supports for our students. We pride ourselves in creating a safe and respectful environment for our students to learn and succeed. At our school, our kids are at home.
Our school's heart and soul is our students and we proudly service a primarily Latino and African-American population.
We prioritize our students' story and the community that we are stepping into to teach, versus trying to push our story into the instruction. We want our students to feel proud of their identity, and have a curriculum that reflects who they are. Our diversity is empowering, and we should have our students realizing their inner strength. I want my students to feel seen. Our students are committed to succeeding and we are committed to providing them the best environment to do it.
My Project
We want to have materials, workshops, and classroom lessons that bring this idea of cultural understanding and empowerment to life. This workshop will help our students discover more of themselves and give them the chance to tell their own story. As seniors, our students need to be prepared for the world at large. This workshop will not only help them see themselves, but will help them see the beauty in others.
Diversity and inclusiveness need to be at the core of all social and emotional learning, and our school is proud to empower our students to be accepting and loving scholars.
This workshop includes classroom instructional time, materials to work with after the class, and literature that remains in the classroom for our students year round. The students complete the curriculum with a full draft of their college essay or cover letter for future career, a valuable output that is often not given instructional time to cover.
