Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students from 5th - 8th grade who are usually coming to me for Speech and Language sessions always respond well with the help of new therapy materials. Students from Middle schools are coming for the speech sessions from Monday-Friday. As a SLP in a low income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My Project

The students from 5th - 8th grade who are usually coming to me for Speech and Language sessions always respond well with the help of new therapy materials. Students from Middle schools are coming for the speech sessions from Monday-Friday. Student with speech and Language impairment has difficulty comprehending the basic vocabulary skills. Students with Autism and Intellectual disability have poor receptive and expressive skills. Their speech is mostly slurred or the students have mis-articulation which is characterized by substitution, omission, distortion and addition of the speech sounds. This project will help the students from the Middle school's to increase their receptive and expressive skills. My student's mostly are bilingual and mostly the students have difficulty understanding receptive and expressive skills. Also by looking at the real pictures and photos of the professionals , the students can get an idea of improving their vocabulary skills and also improving their thought and ideas of becoming a Skilled Professional. This will give up an idea for the students preparing for the college and the carriers. For Asperger/ Autistic or Specific Learning disability students in the Middle school when they are doing a project, or through project based learning the students could be taught such as teamwork, empathy or real -life problem solving skills. If the students have a project for Homeless people or if the project have a particular topic or theme, then each group comprising of 5 students will be given a responsibilities. Each student will maintain the responsibilities and come with the ideas. Each student will have to fulfill their responsibilities.
