My Students Need School Supplies to Be Successful!
My students need basic school supplies to be successful in school, and pencils, crayons, and erasers are all supplies that their parents cannot afford and do not provide.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember going with your Mom to buy school supplies before the first day of third grade? I do. I was so proud of the new crayons, pencils and supplies that I couldn't wait to use them! My students' parents can't afford to buy them these basic necessities, so I must provide them.
I teach in a high poverty, urban school in Texas.
I am lucky enough to have a variety of learners in my Math/Science/Social Studies/Health classes. Students just learning English, inquisitive, English speaking learners, as well as Special Ed. learners are among my children. These children are so eager to come to school, but they do not have the luxury of bringing backpacks full of the most basic supplies. Many of my children's parents work two jobs just to feed their families. It is my responsibility, as their teacher, to provide what they need. The basic supplies of erasers, pencils and crayons are a necessity. Each year I spend my personal money to see that my classroom is stocked with the supplies my boys and girls will need. This year, I have medical bills that prevent me from doing that. I am asking for some help so that I can provide each child with the basic things they need day to day.
My Project
I have requested help from DonorsChoose in acquiring the basic school supplies that an 8 year-old needs to successfully complete third grade. My children will be able to have pencils and erasers to investigate problem solving in Math class. The crayons and colored pencils will help them to learn map skills in Social Studies and to illustrate the layers of the rainforest in Science. I hope to teach them to take care of these basic supplies and to feel grateful that people they do not even know are anxious to help them succeed. We will discuss the acts of kindness that our Donors have exhibited by spending their money on our class. It is my goal for my students to learn that there are wonderful people in this world who want to see them become successes!

Children are so vulnerable at this age, and your gift can help them to see that there are loving, caring people who are interested in them! The excitement in a child's eyes after receiving new supplies is, for some, the only new things they get to experience. These school supplies are their personal tools to help them be successful at school.
