Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning I check in my second graders to see how they are feeling. They are very excited to back in the classroom.

I teach in a primarily immigrant and working-class neighborhood in Los Angeles.

My students come from supportive families who are involved and concerned. Some of my students are above grade level, some are on grade level, and some are struggling readers. Even with all this diversity, my second graders have one thing in common: they all love learning!

My Project

My students love to read! I need to replace some of my books that are falling apart, so my students can continue reading their favorite series. I am requesting books from popular reading series such as Clifford, Biscuit, Real Kid Readers, and others. These series contain book titles all written at reading levels appropriate for second graders. My students enjoy the Clifford and Biscuit Series. The characters are engaging and the story messages clear - play nice, learn to share, try your best, etc. The Real Kids Reader Series contain real-life photos and stories about life experiences that my students can relate to.

I want a student to be able to pick up any of these books, enjoy the story, then want to read more by the same author.

With your help I will be able to replace many of my books that are falling apart. Eventually students will be able to read all the books in an entire series. With so many new and different books from which to choose, my students will be captivated by reading these books for the whole year.
