My Students
My students are SUMthing special! Just as they love to count in Math, they each COUNT!
My preschool children are just arriving from other countries as well as coming to school from homes that are considered to be below the federal poverty level.
Many of my students too are just learning English. They are coming from situations which prevent their families from providing developmentally appropriate learning materials for their children to use at home that would help to develop their counting, sorting, and matching skills.
My students have already developed an interest for counting anything they can get their hands on! I want to provide them with with learning experiences that will not only develop their math skills, but that will be fun, engaging and meaningful for them while they are at school.
My Project
Math games and counters help children learn to count objects as they touch each item, name and recognize numbers, as well as help develop the necessary math skills that are needed as they enter into kindergarten. Too, they will enable the children to work independently or with a group as they practice counting, naming, and identifying numbers. As the children work with the tangrams and tangram matching cards they will be not only able to match each of the shapes that are presented, but learn to name and identify the names of each shape.
By pulling together and MULTIPLYing our efforts by having this project funded with such wonderful and versatile tools, learning will ADD up to the development of important skills for these children.
