Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school in a low economic area. Our classroom is filled with varying abilities and learning styles. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. For some, those are the only meals they can rely on. Most families are blended families and some students only have one parent.

Despite the many challenges that they face, my students are always ready to learn and eager to try new things.

I strive to provide them with rich experiences because they are resilient learners that love school.

My Project

My students need motivators, such as colorful pens, mechanical pencils, stickers, mini memo pads and a treasure box. This project is centered on gaining supplies ( tangible) that will be used as reinforcers in our classroom. These supplies will allow students to see that they are being rewarded for their engagement, which will then increase favorable behavior being taught and decrease problem behavior. All materials in this project were predetermined as being highly motivating items for each student. The items will be rewarded only if students comply and follow the curriculum taught. It will also be distributed if students request for the items as the program aims to increase independent/spontaneous communication. These materials will make a huge difference in my classroom because all requested material are highly desirable for my students; Colorful pens and mechanical pencils are just two of their favorite positive reinforcer. My students have also shown a liking small toys too.

Reinforcers are extremely important in our classroom because it clearly shows our students that they will be rewarded for their hard work.
