This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are movers and shakers- in every sense of the words. They are brilliant, innovative thinkers whose minds are as active as their bodies. They love to work together through collaboration and enjoy project based learning in groups. I see them constantly struggling to sit in their seats. Many of them are kinesthetic learners and simply being able to stand or sit on the floor allows their thought process to flow more freely than sitting in the traditional school desks.

Students today are easily distracted in the traditional classroom.

Rows? Static seating? Lectures? Just because I teach history doesn’t mean we have to live in it! My kids love to move around and research shows that their cognitive ability can be amplified by allowing them to do so. That's where YOU come in.

My Project

Our students spend eight hours of their day in school. Much of that time is spent sitting in seats that are as uncomfortable as they are restraining. Students today learn through hands-on learning which means we as teachers should encourage movement in our classrooms.

I would like to provide flexible seating options for them to be able to gather, collaborate and create something with the knowledge they gain in my class.

By creating the "Creativity Corner", I hope to provide my students with a place to sit OR stand, and think outside of the box. With a comfortable rug for them to sit and collaborate, standing desks to allow them to move and fun bean bag chairs to help with the creative process, I hope to slowly convert my classroom into a place where students can become not just movers and shakers in their seats, but eventually in the world.
