Many materials are necessary for modern students to access classwork. Since the majority of class projects in our curriculum are through Google Classroom, students left without a charged Chromebook fall behind quickly. My school does the best we can to supply students with Chromebooks and chargers, but many of these materials break or are in short supply. Students often cannot afford to go out and buy their own electronics.
Without charged Chromebooks, students fall behind quickly and miss out on important learning that will build the foundation for them to be successful in school.
When a student tells me they have a broken charger and cannot afford a new one, I have to provide them with paper copies of assignments. They miss out on skills that we are working on like researching and finding credible sources on the web. Students with disabilities also cannot use programs that make learning more accessible such as voice-to-text, spellcheck, or audio texts.
With more chargers, I can make sure all of my students are prepared for the day's lesson and do not feel like they are being left behind.
