My Project
As a special education middle school teacher in a predominantly low-income area, I have noticed that many of my students come to school needing snacks to help them focus. Additionally, sensory materials like the floor rocker are crucial for their emotional regulation. I would love to create a sensory corner in our classroom where students can feel safe and have access to materials that will help them cope with the daily stressors they face.
This corner is not just a space but a necessity for our students' well-being.
Using a printer would allow us to create and print coloring pages of their favorite characters. Incorporating tactile elements and engaging their multiple senses with vivid colors and patterns will enhance their visual experience.
My aim is to reduce maladaptive behaviors, such as self-injurious behavior and stemming, by providing a safe space for emotional regulation. Additionally, having a cart to store these materials would be essential, as we know how easily things can disappear in our classroom.
