Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently work with an amazing group of intellectually disabled kindergarten and first grade students. My students are medically fragile with a variety of different medical needs. Most have sensory and behavior issues along with cognitive limitations that impede with their retention of learning materials. They are currently learning all basic skills such as, potty training, holding writing instruments and working on fine motor and gross motor skills.
My students each have an individual educational plan.
Their goals are tailored to them and as I write their IEPs, I focus on how I can best help them reach those goals. I write their IEP goals yearly as progress is made.
My students are sweet, loving and an adorable bunch of happy kids! Despite their disabilities they are always ready and eager to learn in school. They are learning how to use technology to access their educational goals.
My Project
My students will be able to interact with the Surface Go Tablet in variety of different ways. In class they can use the tablet as a communication device, with choice apps and websites for appropriate communication skills and modeling. They can use it as a tracing, writing/ drawing instrument throughout all classes. My pupils can also use the Surface to access a variety of learning activities to enhance learning.
During Math, we can use the different apps/ websites to teach different skills such as counting and identifying numbers, shapes and colors.
During Reading and Language Arts, the children can access the tablet to trace, write and expand their vocabulary. They can learn to use the tablet during small and one to one group.
My students can also access the tablet for social emotional activities and social learning strategies. The tablet can expand their learning horizons and truly infuse technology into part of their daily learning.
The ideas and potential for learning using the Surface Go tablet are endless and will give them an advantage.
