This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I, inner city Middle Bilingual School. Many of my students have been in our school since kindergarten and we are like family. All my students get free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch, they come from different social, economic and cultural backgrounds and look out for one another. They need to increase their reading and writing skills in Spanish. They enjoy a private and comfortable space for reflecting and reading.
While some of my students are readers (and writers too!) the majority don't have a consistent reading routine.
I want to help them develop their reading skills and foster their habit of reading for their whole life.
My Project
My project will help students with multiple learning and reading skills at their individual levels in Spanish. Especially at the start of this school year (after learning online) my students need a space where they can enjoy reading and “fall in love” with books again. It will help them acclimate to reading and improve their Language skills. I want to inspire my students to read quality books and establish reading habits. I also want to create a classroom library integrating strategies to make it more appealing to students.
The soft chairs, the rug and wall decorations will create a comfortable safe reading nook space that will encourage students to develop reading habits.
