My Students

"All the books in the world won't help you if they're just piled up in a heap." ~ David Eddings, King of the Murgos. I would like to reorganize my classroom library with new furniture to make popular books more accessible at the end of the aisle.

I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that services many Navy and Army families in Hawaii.

The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our Preschool-6th grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years.

My Project

My kindergarten and first grade students love reading and borrowing books from the nonfiction section. However, they are often overwhelmed by the many nonfiction shelves and books geared towards the older students. I would like to highlight the easy nonfiction books in my library by using an end-of range book truck. My younger students will benefit from this special section at the front of my shelves. Pulling out the Accelerated Reader level one and two books from the regular nonfiction section will allow the students to choose appropriate books on real topics that interest them. I am currently using a wide book truck that sticks out into the aisles. This makes it difficult for students to access the books down the aisles. This new book truck will fit perfectly and will not stick out into the aisle at all. The truck will also be mobile so it can be rolled out for nonfiction lessons.

Your donations will provide a special section for my younger students.

The end-of-range book truck will help my library become more user friendly and ADA compliant for all patrons.
