My Little Yogis

My Students

My students at our school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District are amazing! They want to be successful and come in everyday eager to learn and experience new adventures. I am an Intervention Specialist. I primarily work with children who learn differently from the general population. My students struggle with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia (struggle to learn number concepts), dysgraphia (difficulty writing their thoughts) just to name a few.

After virtual learning since March 2020, our student population is experiencing learning in a classroom environment.

Along with having academic struggles, they are experiencing social/emotional struggles. My population of students struggle to make friends during a regular academic year. Without having built those social skills early on, they are noticably struggling to making friends. This causes anxiety about school, learning and every wonderful thing envolved with their educational expierence.

I am have completed 200 hr. yoga teacher certification and would like to introduce yoga to my students. Yoga teaches self-awareness, self-regulation, and stress reduction. Students learn how to respond reflectively rather than reactively to life's challenges. Yoga also nurtures emotional intelligence as students learn to consult their intuition when faced. My students would really benefit from learning these skills.

My Project

By my students having a yoga mat, blocks and strap they will be able to fully participate in our yoga classes. During class we will talk about the essentials of yoga, breathing, poses and how to make good choices, recognize when to walk away and how to manage conflict. They will learn how to care for their equipment and how to release their struggles on their mat. While learning the principals of yoga, we will discuss while sitting on the mats so they come to realize this is their safe space.
