My students need 2 great collections of books to read, 10 Spanish Thesauruses, and an artistic outlet (pencils, markers) to show what they've gained from their reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When students read a book that engages them, they can carry that inspiration on to an artistic creation.
My 6 and 7 year old students are learning to read in English and Spanish.
Our school is located in the San Fernando Valley of California. Most students are Latino and come from low income families. They often don't have books at home. When they read a book they have enjoyed they are asked to create a work of art that will in turn inspire another student to read the book as well.
My Project
Reading new books is like a prize. Creating a beautiful work of art to be displayed in the class, and share about the book is motivational. Those that read are motivated to share and create. Seeing their work displayed motivates them to read and create more. Those that see the art work are inspired to read and repeat the process.
Reading a book on your own is a major accomplishment.
Reading a new story is wonderful and motivating. These stories can then be a launching point to inspire an artistic creation. Please help my students read more, and create more.
