My Students
My students are amazing! All of them are bilingual or are becoming bilingual. Some of them speak three languages. These kiddos are the future adults I want to be caring for the world. My students come from all over to attend our dual language Spanish/English school, and their families are diverse in culture.
My students are curious about the world around them and so eager to learn.
They are a dynamic, interesting, and interested group of young people who love to learn about life.
My Project
Shoes. Shoes are more important than one might think for ensuring student success. Kids pay attention to each other's shoes, they admire those with shoes they think are nice, they notice when kids have shoes that are not. Sometimes they can be cruel about it.
Every year I notice that some of my students come in with old shoes that are falling apart, or that are clearly too small.
It seems like a small thing, but having shoes that are uncomfortable or disintegrating is really distracting to your average 8-year-old. Further, it really impacts their ability to do what kids ought to be doing: running around, playing, and bouncing off of every available surface during recess!
Please help me purchase shoes for my students, and to add to my school's clothes closet in order to ensure that all of my kiddos have decent footwear.
