I need to complete Component 3 out of 4 in order to become an Exceptional Needs Specialist with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Woods's classroom raised $603

My Students
I have a new group of students this year who are eager to learn! Now that my previous class has graduated, it's time to get to know a new group who will be in the classroom with me for the next three years of elementary school. While we are all excited about the transition, I want to make sure that I am consistently meeting my students based on their needs.
We're located in the District of Columbia and my students love everything about learning!
Much like them, I enjoy learning as well. I have been able to provide them with all of the resources needed to excel. Although I am transitioning schools, I still feel the need to provide the same resources. I am continuing in my quest to become an Exceptional Needs Specialist with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. After completing the first round earlier in the year and awaiting results from Component 2, I am now onto Component 3.
My Project
I am currently on a journey to becoming an Exceptional Needs Specialist. This is one of the highest accolades that an educator, regardless of their teaching state, could earn as it proves that he/she has proven that they have mastered various teaching components of their discipline. For me, this is special education. Having successfully completed Component 1 and awaiting results from Component 2 by Summer 2019, I am ready to begin Component 3. Through this component, I will have to submit recorded evidence of my teaching in action. Specifically, I will be able to prove that I am capable of meeting the needs of my students. This is the ability to teach students of all disabilities!
I enjoy teaching students with disabilities, but I know that there is more to learn!
Completion of this certificate requires passing four components and even though I am waiting on the scores from Component 3, I stand to learn so much more about the field of special education. Participation in this network will allow me an opportunity to review research on best practices for special education as well as access to a community of teachers from my district who hold certificates from the National Board. While I attended college for special education, I know that further research has been written on educating various disabilities in education. With me loving my profession, I want to continue to meet my student's needs.
I believe that teachers are lifelong learners and my completion of this component will lead me closer to achieving the goal of becoming an Exceptional Needs Specialist. I am hoping that you will find this project as important to me and my students!
