Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are children from low income families in rural communities in Texas. They are experimenting with finger paints, play-doh and other manipulatives to strengthen their finger/hand muscles.
They gleefully draw pictures, get messy and love to explain their pictures to me while I draw out more pleasant thoughts and memories as we share and admire the picture.
They are truly an incredible group of children, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
The play-doh, finger paints, unifix cubes and counting manipulatives already have a "home" in my classroom. The use of these materials will facilitate not only the fine motor control my students need but will also aid in more conversation and sharing opportunities among themselves.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their art project and more willing to share their ideas as they create or count manipulatives together, sharing materials and using their manners in the process.
Many of whom are concerned with not getting messy will be more willing to experiment with paints and all of them will recognize themselves as artists.
