This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education preschool teacher for all learners. My students have a range of abilities and support necessities. Our program uses the Creative Curriculum to guide our students learning which requires accommodations and modifications appropriate for our students needs. My students are extremely active, and their attention spans last no longer than ten to fifteen minutes per activity. My students have many needs from basic daily life-skills (e.g. diapering) to exposure to age appropriate standards based curriculum.

My school is a Title I school that serves students who come from low-income families and all qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program.

My students need to be highly motivated by a variety of resources to capture their attention and develop their individual strengths. My students are eager learners and come to school excited for the day. They are amazing little human beings who will become important contributors to society with the appropriate support and resources.

My Project

My projects consists of providing students with the environment to spark their imagination in creating their own business. I will do so by placing the grocery/lemonade stand in our dramatic play area to provide students with opportunities to explore creating their own business. Using the pretend play toys like ice cream set and indestructible dish set will allow students use the materials they find interesting and support their imagination in creating their own business space. I will also use the love and care play set to encourage exploring familiar items and keep a variety of business ventures opportunities open to their imagination.

It is important for students to use their imagination to guide them towards interests that may lead towards becoming an entrepreneur.

Creating a space for students to explore familiar and also new manipulative will help open up opportunities. I will make connections to the grocery/lemonade stand by reading related texts. I will ensure that our environment is flexible and guided by students interest.

My goal is for students interest and imagination to be sparked in creating their own business. Letting them explore business opportunities will help them develop and expand their financial literacy. Students will also benefit from this space by practicing social, language, mathematical, literacy, and fine motor skills.
