This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I send home folders weekly that include a packet of homework and some reading practice. But, these folders are so much more than just homework. I also make sure that every student has access to important learning tools that will help them to be successful in their home practice. In the interest of equity, I include tip sheets in page protectors to help students whose parents have limited literacy or who don't have access to an adult that speaks our language of instruction- Spanish.

A homework folder that is actually a resource bank can make all the difference in enabling independent learners to practice at their own pace.

The pencil pouches will hold dry erase markers that can be used for write-on/wipe-off practice (gotta save the planet!) as well as differentiated high-frequency words and math facts. In other schools, these might be items that are requested on a back-to-school classroom supply list, but many of my families are not able to purchase these types of materials. Not to mention that buying them all at once means they are consistent, which improves classroom management and culture. Plus, I KNOW this particular folder will last all year (sometimes several!) without ripping or cracking which is more than I can say for most.

Thanks for helping my students extend their learning beyond the classroom.
