My Gentlemen Love To Show Off!

My students need a portable document camera.

This project is fully funded

It's inevitable that eight year old boys will want to show off their hard work. I teach 17 third grade boys in North Carolina. Most of my students come from tough personal situations and live in a low income neighborhood. They come to our all male classroom every morning ready to learn and more importantly, to show off their new skills.

There is a sense of friendly competition in an all-male classroom. Students are eager to show off their hard work and explain their thinking. Unfortunately, there is no clear way for students to project their projects, writing, or math solutions for all their peers to see. In addition, my boys learn from interacting with the content I present. We use a variety of learning games in our classroom. Currently, we create overhead transparencies of these learning games to demonstrate how to participate. However, this is costly and not environmentally friendly.

A document camera is a perfect solution to our problem. It will empower my boys to show off their work and learn from their peers. This new technology will cut down the cost of printing transparencies. Instead of recreating a transparent copy of each game, I can simply place the actual learning game under the document camera. This will keep the learning process interactive and visually stimulating for my learners.

Students gain new understanding and build self confidence from explaining their work to each other. Your help will ensure students become articulate and confident gentlemen.
