This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a Head start teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they always come to school ready and willing to learn. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, brilliant, and eager to learn.
They like to draw, they love counting songs, listening to stories, rhymes and finger play. They love learning about and exploring this big beautiful world that we live in, and they thrive on lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Despite the odds stacked against them, my students show persistence in their daily challenges and long to show others how capable and smart they truly are.
My Project
My students need informational text-read-along sets for their listening center. These sets will be used during our literacy rotation time. The informational text will help to introduce nonfiction topics to my early readers. These sets are just right story books for my emergent readers. These readers will help reinforce the sight words that my students are starting to master. The text in these books are simple enough that my students will be able to follow along. These sets are great resources that will help to build the foundation for my early readers.
