My students need books to be able to choose from during our Reader's Workshop time. Some examples are: The Carrot Seed, Clouds, and A Color Of His Own.
Moving back into a first grade classroom has reminded me just how eager and excited their young minds can be. I want to be able to instill the same love and passion for books that I had as a student at this very school. A big part of our day is spent exploring new text, which requires a large library.
I have a very rambunctious group of first grade learners this year.
They have kept me on my toes each and every day and I am forever grateful to be experiencing this year together. The school is an amazing place to work and it creates a positive learning atmosphere for all who enter.
My Project
I believe that if my students are provided with time and access to books, they will learn to read and develop the same passion for books that I have always had. First grade is such a crucial time for learning to read and students should be surrounded with endless options of books to dive into. Receiving new books will allow my students to experience new authors, new stories, and new adventures through text.
By having new books for our classroom library, the students will be able to be introduced to new text that they may not have otherwise.
They can find and read about new interests, fall in love with a new author, or just practice their daily skills as we apply the fundamentals of reading into our daily routine.
