My Students

This will be my first year teaching 4th Grade at my school. I know that my school has a super strong culture that will help to engage children in the content. However, I want to make sure that my classroom is a safe and fun place where kids learn to explore the new world reading opens up!

My students come from a low socio-economic background and a lot of them are at least two years below their proper reading level.

From what I have been told, there are quite a few student that are homeless, raising younger siblings, and may not have food at home. With those challenges, it is very important that I create a motivating environment where my kids are excited to learn. I also understand that students may not be able to afford the materials necessary for them to be successful, so it is my goal to ensure that they are given everything that they need. In spite of all the challenges and struggles in my students lives, I still want them to know that they are capable of achieving anything and that there are people that are rooting for them to succeed. I think that my support, the support of my school staff, and the support of DonorsChoose will be a great foundation in building their future!

My Project

A lot of the resources that I am requesting are to support me as a teacher so that I am best prepared to set up my classroom and create an ideal environment for my students. I have also requested interesting books for them to read during independent reading time , a speaker for short dance parties, and a few educational games to play at the end of the week as incentives. Finally, I requested a bean bag for the calm down corner, so that they can be comfortable while reflecting on their behavior and preparing to re-enter the population. I believe all of this materials are necessary in meeting the educational goals that I have for my students. I think by being prepared and having all the things that I need to succeed as a teacher will support me in delivering the necessary content to my students in a way that they will remember it.

I am SO passionate about education and my student demographic in particular.

I believe that they are capable of so much, but just need to be given opportunities to succeed. I believe the donations from this project will help me to be better prepared to teach my students and make learning fun while building their character. My goal is to dramatically increase test scores and set the foundation for them to be on track for the rest of their educational career.
