This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students are energetic, imaginative, and creative 5 and 6-year-olds. They arrive at school eager to learn and ready for the challenges of the day!

I teach in an urban elementary school in which all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

I want to provide opportunities for channeling their energy for learning in a safe classroom environment. Having opportunites to engage with developmentally appropriate materials to explore is one way to foster creativity in my kindergarten students. Exploring and building confidence with other students in our classroom while using culturally responsive ways to include all will increase a love of learning and lead to cultivating curiosity.

My Project

The Pose and Play Diverse family set will allow my kindergartners to see their families represented when playing in our classroom.

Having representations of our diverse classroom when playing is important to help foster a culturally responsive classrom enviornment.

Our classroom is culturally diverse! The diverse family set, dolls, crayons, and paper are ways for my students to interact with materials that represent our multicultural classroom. By having materials that look similar to my students, this will create an atmosphere of inclusion. My kindergarten students will develop knowledge about their own backgrounds and backgrounds of other children in our room.
