My students need books to go along with the new art curriculum I am implementing. These books will have me teach the elements of line, shape, color, shape, space, texture and form. I do not currently have any of these books.
My students love coming to my art class! They are enthusiastic and creative. I am lucky to be able to work with the same children over the course of five years, so I get to see them grow and blossom into students ready for fifth grade. I often see children who may have struggled in Kindergarten grown into young, confident learners by the time they reach fourth grade. That is something that I love about being their art teacher.
In the art room, we work with a variety of materials.
Their favorite thing to do is paint! They all know who Mona Lisa is and can recognize several famous paintings.
One of their favorite artists to imitate is Jackson Pollock because the students like to splatter. All of my students like listening to stories, whether it is from a book or one I tell them about my life. I often tell them about any one of the mistakes I may have made in life or even that day. I think it is very important to teach young artists that mistakes are opportunities to learn.
My Project
Children love books! Our classroom does not have a good literature library directly tied to the elements of art, such as the ones I am requesting in this project. Deep Space Sparkle, which is an online program, has a detailed curriculum that I recently purchased entitled EPIC - Elements and Principles Integration Curriculum.
The books I have requested all support this curriculum I wish to implement.
However, due to cost, I focused on just the seven elements of art and will later work on collecting books that support the principles.
This is a project that will serve children well beyond my years as an art teacher. Please help us build our art library. Thank you for reading.
