Please help the students at MES to have a memorable field day experience. I have only been at this school for one year, but within this single year, the compassion and kindness that these students have has really impacted me as a teacher. Our school is located within a low-income community, yet these students and their families always show up, show gratitude, and demonstrate genuine kindness.
As a school, our mission this year has been to create equitable opportunities for our students; however, we have found this a challenge with little funding for extra activities.
Through fundraising and donations, we have been able to introduce new programs this year including our first ever cross-country team, a new bike program that exposed nearly 65% of our kids to their first experience on wheels, and various similar programs involving the greater community.
We have a small playground and field that is in the process of being renovated so it is tricky to host a school-wide field day in the small space; however, with various fun activities, I truly believe these students will have a fantastic experience leading into the final days of school. My school plans to host a field day outside for students to enjoy the sunshine and experience nature with one another. It would be so meaningful for these students to also feel celebrated with a field day of popsicles, water balloons, music, and field day necklaces to enjoy. Our budget does not have funds to provide these items to our kids, but it has been so heart-warming that families wish to volunteer their time towards attending field day.
