I teach art at a very diverse city school in Hazleton, Pa. Our Hispanic population is very high as is our poverty level. I have classes which include non English speakers as well as students with disabilities such as educational, mental, or physical. I love to teach lessons that incorporate as many different art forms as I can. Especially including supplies and products that my students have never used. My students love to create! And I love to teach them!
Lets learn about the world and its art!
I teach multicultural art lessons to introduce my students to the world.
We learn about art from a different country/region each week or two and incorporate geography, history, art, and music into each lesson.
For this lesson we will be learning about the Hopi Indians from North America and their basket weaving techniques. Each student will use cord and needles to create a coil and yarn basket to display during our gallery night and they will then take their projects home to enjoy. I'm hoping they will keep these baskets for many years and remember the history behind it.
