My classroom is filled with a diverse group of students in fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth grades in our city middle school. We are one of four middle schools in the city and we have a high percentage of students who receive free or reduced price lunches. I want my students to have fun in my classroom while they learn important life skills.
My Project
I like my students to work in small groups so that they learn teamwork and how to get along well with others! I like these small groups to do some hands-on work so that they are ready for careers in the Food Service Industry. My students work better when they are up and moving around. My classes have students that can't sit for too long! I would like to give them more real world experiences!
I have also asked for a wipe board for the wall.
The wipe board I am currently using won't wipe off any more unless you use a wet towel. That type of cleaning takes too long and the students can't stay focused while I try to fix up the wipe board for writing changes into our recipes. It is important to always keep the students focused. When their minds have time to wander, I have lost their attention and I can't get them focused again. They have a very short attention span. Anything I teach them needs to be quick and to the point!
